Get To Know More About Dr. Tiwana
Born in Alberta, Canada Dr. Tiwana completed her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and Biological Sciences in 1996 at the University of Alberta, in Edmonton, Alberta. She graduated from Northwestern University School of Dentistry in Chicago, Illinois in 2000. She completed a General Practice Residency at the Denver Health Medical Center in Colorado, and is a Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry.
From 2001-2014 Dr. Tiwana was a full-time faculty member at UNC Chapel Hill Adams School of Dentistry. During her time on the faculty, she held several different administrative roles, Director of the Urgent Care Clinic, a Clinic Director and mentor for third-year dental students (for her efforts in this role she received a teaching award in 2014), and Director of the General Dentistry Group in the UNC Dental Faculty Practice. She also taught the dental students a didactic course in Oral Diagnosis. She is particularly interested in treatment planning, oral medicine, and esthetic dentistry. She has been published in the Journal of the American Dental Association and the Journal of Dental Education, and she has given presentations at the national and local levels.
Dr. Tiwana has also worked with the North Carolina Smiles Program, providing dental care for school children around the state. She has participated in many North Carolina Mission of Mercy clinics, and other community dental outreach projects and service committees. She has often been called upon as an Expert Witness in dental legal cases and consulted for dental media publications. In March 2025 Dr. Tiwana was named a ‘Woman of Achievement’ by Chatham Magazine.
Dr. Tiwana is married, she and her husband Navi have a daughter (Alexandria), a son (Jax), and a spoiled Maltipoo (Scout). Outside the office, she loves adventuring around the globe, getting lost in a good book, hiking, winter sports, trying out new recipes, and wandering through art and history museums. During college, she worked in a greenhouse and developed a bit of a green thumb. She enjoys gardening (indoor/outdoor), and she is a rock hobbyist. The bucolic setting of the office reflects her fondness for nature and design, creating a serene dental retreat for patients.
